Have A Pre Related Question? Ask It Here.

Postby kindaskimpy » Wed May 20, 2009 9:03 am

I happen to have a couple of friends who work for Sprint and after much cajoling (and some bribery. Seriously... it's going to cost me some drinks) one of them agreed to answer some questions about the Pre. His terms are quite logical. He won't answer anything he is strictly forbidden to reveal, he will not answer anything that could personally identify him to the company and he won't answer questions regarding the App catalog since technically it doesn't exist yet.

Rather than being stingy and asking it all myself, I decided to open it up to you guys. Go ahead and ask here what you'd like to see answered and I will submit the questions to him either tonight or tomorrow. He'll choose which ones he can answer and I'll post it all right back here.

So what are you waiting for? Ask!!!

I currently have a shared family plan with unlimited data (just for myself). Will I be forced to "upgrade" to at least an Everything Data plan when buying the Pre? For a family shared plan, that almost doubles my monthly bill, something that I doubt I'll do.

Thanks in advance.

It's an obvious one but what about battery life? Can it really hold out through an entire day with moderate usage?

I'm a Premier Customer, but haven't received the "exclusive" invite for the Pre Launch Party that I've been hearing/reading about on Friday5. Is this email invite going to be sent to all Premier Customers, or only a select few? If only a select few, how do I get in that list?

In addition, I have an older plan with basically unlimited everything (data, text, picturemail, etc) and plenty of minutes - it's been perfect for me and my family for years. I've been told that I have to upgrade to the Data plan, but don't understand why, since I already have everything that the Data plan has (I DO understand that they want me to upgrade to a more spendy plan). Will the phone not work unless it's specifically on the Data plan, and could there be a workaround? I don't want to switch from my awesome (and awesomely priced) plan!

Thanks!

My question is about the apps and the app store. Will the app store be ready on release day? What will be the average cost of the apps available and when the app store opens, roughly how many apps will be available.

The reason for my questions is that I feel these are the things that Apple did right with the iPhone. Alot of people would be willing to pay $ .49 - .99 for almost anything just to try an app. The iPhone commercials say everything, 'there's an app for that', repeated for just about anything you want to do. The Pre needs that kind of utility.

If I switch to Sprint (from Verizon, in my case) in order to get the Pre, and I want to sign a new contract, port my number to Sprint, etc, how long will it be from when I walk into the store before I have a functioning Pre that rings when someone dials "my" phone number? Also, what should I bring to the store, other than a credit card (ID, proof of address, Verizon bill, anything special like that)?

Will there be screen protectors available at launch? Will the info on my Palm 755p transfer over easily? I use a Mac, will I be able to use the calendar etc. from there or will I have to switch to google services? Will there be an onscreen keyboard coming anytime soon?

All good questions guys. I've already submitted what we have so far to him and he's answering as we speak. When we reach ten questions, I will go ahead and post the answers up on the homepage so keep an eye out for your questions here: http://palmgoon.com/

Keep 'em coming.

I just thought of another one. How many devices will each store get for launch day?

When will they let bloggers and reviewers get their hands on the unit? Since ALL the demo’s have been “controlled” and no one outside of Palm/Sprint has “taken it out for a test drive” I’m beginning to suspect they are hiding something.
