If I Wasn't A Fanboy Before...

... I certainly am one now.

I just got a call from Sprint and this very polite lady from the finance department. I asked her what I could help her with and she tells me that they noticed my bill was exceptionally high this month and although they don't doubt I will pay it given my great history with them, they were just wondering what was going on with me.

I told her that indeed circumstances beyond my control were indeed forcing me to make more long distance calls than usual but not to worry, that I would take care of my bill long before it is due (in three weeks.) She tells me again they're not worried, they just wanted to know because when a customers' bill reaches that $600 mark, they know something isn't right and asked me, if I didn't mind, what was prompting these international calls on my bill. I explained to her the situations and family emergencies going on but not in great detail just in case she needed to notate the account for me for some reason.

She sincerely sympathized and told me she'd like to help and wondered why I hadn't called them and asked for help. I told her I didn't think she/they would so I didn't call them and that I know most companies are only concerned with their bottom line so it doesn't matter if my father is dying, they still provided a service they expect to get paid for.

She tells me that while what I said is true, it is also true that Sprint cares about the customer as well, not just the dollar sign and if they can ever help in any way, they would. I told her I was pleasantly surprised to hear that although I've never had a problem with their customer service. Before ending the call she tells me to please never hesitate again to contact them when something happens, and that they are always there for us loyal customers... and concludes by telling me she'd adjusted my account and my amount due was now $324.

Wow. Just wow.

On another topic, she and I did discuss the Palm Pre for a couple of minutes and she told me that she truly doesn't know the release date... none of them do yet but that all of her friends ask her all the time. She's dying to know herself because she says she will be first in line to get herself one and a Touchstone charger.
Random fact:

Kansas state law requires pedestrians crossing the highways at night to wear tail lights.

Sounds amazing, Skimp. I've never had something like that happen to me with either Verizon or AT&T so I can't say that they would or wouldn't do just what Sprint did for you. Still, I'm impressed and it makes me feel better about switching to Sprint.

I HIGHLY highly recommend posting this on Consumerist.com as an "Above and Beyond" story. Sorry to hear about personal life troubles, but very glad that Sprint went the extra step to make someone's day and help them out when they could use a hand. Thanks for sharing, and makes me want to be part of the Sprint family even more.
