Java VM Tutorial for 755p

Postby bmoore » Fri Apr 17, 2009 10:51 am

Anybody have a link to a good guide for getting the JavaVM installed/configured on a 755p? Blazer is killin me and I would like to get Opera Mini working to improve the whole web experience.

If I can make it fly i will be configuring it on my 755p and my wife's Centro. I already have the VM package but need to get it on and make it stable as this is a business phone and needs to be as bulletproof and functional as possible. :D

"You need to do a copuple more things to get it working well:
Once you get the JVM installed, make sure you set the following options in the main Prefs app > IBM Java VM: check 'Use Double Buffering', check 'Use high resolution coordinates', don't set anything for the HTTP Proxy, set the Memory maximum to at least 4Mb and set the Maximum Java thread stack size to 4kb."

Here is a great link for getting opera to work well on the palm. Its a HUGE difference using 4.1 instead of 4.2.

thanks for the posts, I clicked the link above and the reference link they provide to Opera Mini 4.1 doesn't appear to exist anymore. The only link i could find on the opera mini site was for 4.2.

Have to hunt for an archive of 4.1 i guess.

What else have you installed? In my experience IBM JVM has not caused any instability on the Centro at least.

java only is unstable (and it IS unstable) when you are using an actual java app (like opera) I've not in almost 6 months, had it cause a problem with the phone as a whole.

I have yet to see any instability while using Opera. Granted, no marathon browsing sessions, but in 15-20 minutes of poking around in testing and after the fact, no resets no crashing.
