Podcasts?

Postby clayjm » Mon Apr 27, 2009 9:53 pm

Is there an application for the Palm or any news of an app coming to the pre that allows the user to subscribe to a podcast and manage that subscription without syncing to a computer. With the ability to download music on a phone, the fact that you're connected to the internet at all time, I never understood why this wasn't a built in feature of previous mobile OS. Especially on the iPhone. I listen to several podcasts, most of which are uploaded daily, and I don't charge or sync my iPod or Zune daily so I usually miss a couple here and there. It would be nice that it would look at my subscriptions and as soon as a new podcast hit the interwebz it would start downloading and be immediately available.

I don't deal with pod cast much but would you need the same functionality if you could stream your pod cast directly (provided that you can stop and start later).

While the Pre gives you the ability to solve more than one dilemma simultaneously!

Absolutely not, but is there a away to directly stream an mp3 to the pre without having it in storage first? In my experience most mobile phone web browsing does not have the ability to stream an mp3 or the ability to run whatever player is embedded in the podcast website.

Well, on the PalmOS side, Kinoma 4 does just that: streams podcasts without downloading (on the WM side Kinoma is also capable of streaming MP3s). As far as webOS goes, we will just have to wait and see.

I think Quicknews can do it.

Kinoma is sooooo much better though. No downloads needed. Stream the podcasts all you want and it even saves the place where you stopped listening so you resume from the same place!!! Totally replaces satellite radio in my car :D
