Still no info about battery life

Postby wfc5000 » Tue May 19, 2009 11:02 am

Now that we have an official release date and pricing, we still have been given nothing about expected or even claimed battery life! this is starting to worry me, also how many apps will run concurrently, how many/what apps are launching with the device etc.

I won't pull the trigger on a pre-order till I see reviews now, I at least wanted them to lie and put up a 5 hour claimed number like everyone else :)

Well several reviews have been posted on here stating that the battery life is at least a full day of activity, while there wasn't any technical details brought out in that review, it should at least calm your fears on that aspect of it. Nothing amazing, but on par with other smart phones.

The only rumor I've heard on the apps running concurrently is 3, but the source was iffy and I am not even sure the phone has a limit. Obviously the more you open the slower it will run, but why put a limit in at all?

Assuming the app store does launch on the 6th with the phone, there are several big name apps that have already been seen in "in the wild" shots and the buzz from developers tells me that a lot of developers have had a chance to play with the SDK, so who knows how many could possibly be ready to go. It also runs old palm software so you have a large number of apps already available with or without the app store. Seeing how Palm has really been able to find where Apple went wrong their first time around, and taking steps to better themselves, I predict that the app store will launch with the phone.

Yes battery life a LARGE concern for me also... As long as your sure to close out of unnecessary apps and also when its in your pocket I cant see why the battery would be horrible, unless palm just put a peice of shit in ther (which I dont think would be wise)... Capping the amount of apps would make sense, so those overly multitasking and also unsavvy people dont somehow freeze the poor phone

I don't know about the app cap...I am sure there are 4 or 5 apps that run together have little effect on the performance because they may not be resource hogs, while running 2 processor heavy apps could freeze it. I would think they'd take a page from the computer OS world and let the user decide and if it freezes it, it feezes it.

I can't remember right now exactly where i read it but I know that I read somewhere that someone had the phone with 5 or 6 apps opened at one time and noticed no slow down. If I can remember where this was, I'll post a link.

Seriously, all the big scientists and developers out there need to stop working on doubling processor speeds and work on a new power solution as batteries haven't really had a breakthrough forever. I remember when a cell phone would last a week without charging, now with all the new stuff we can do on them we're down to a day or less.

Where's my wireless electricity damnit?

Technology to improve battery life immensely is already in the works. I saw it not too long ago on The Feed on G4.

Not that better battery life shouldn't be worked on, but you act like you need a phone to last a whole week on a single charge. What is wrong with plugging it in when you go to bed?

I don't care about the battery much as long as it gets me through the day like my centro does! Have you seen the new charges, they look pretty sweet! :-D
