Whats the purpose of the light...

On the 650, 700p, 755p the indicator light functions in a useful manner. If you miss a call, get a text, email etc and are not looking at the phone it will blink to alert you that something has happened.

This feature however seems to be noticeably absent from the centro. Why even have a damn light, all it does it glow red when you plug it in.

Am i missing something?

No, you're not really missing anything. The light just functions as that, a charge indicator. At least... out of the box... There are programs for download that will turn it into a more functional component, however.

Also TreoBattery, a wonderful free app can utilize the light to make sure the phone powers down correctly during sleep mode.

The problem is in the Centro's hardware. It does not support the light blink function. There are apps that bring that functionality back but that involves ACTIVELY turning the light on and aff which has a drastic effect on battery life.
