I posted this yesterday but the original post got accidentally deleted (Oops!). Through the magic of computers though, here it is again, with some new info (hint: look towards the bottom).
We’ve been answering a lot of your questions here and there from what we ourselves know. However, these answers are kind of scatted all over the place here on the main page and over at the forums so I’m doing my best to gather them all together right here for you. Let me know if I’ve missed anything we’ve already confirmed.
- Push email – the webOS will push your email to you and notify you when some new is ready to be ready… it has yet to fail me.
- Palm Online Profile – the Palm Profil Online will serve as a means to store backed up data from your phone such as:
o Preferences
o Settings
o Applications (downloaded from the App Catalog, presumably)
o Calendar
o Tasks
- Universal Search supports Twitter – yes, the Palm Gods heard many of your cries, it seems, and Twitter can be searched right from your home screen. (As well as Google, Google Maps, and Wikipedia. More to come, I’m sure.)
- Sprint Everything Plans Required – no your SERO will not work. No ESN swaps. You must be on an Everything Plan.
- Despite reports to the contrary, every Sprint store will receive the Pre. No store left behind.
- Palm will offer a one time sync solution for you to be able to get your information from your computer onto your Pre
- Palm will offer a utility to help you get music downloaded directly onto your Pre transferred to your computer
- Universal Search does search through all memos, tasks and email… yes, Calendar too. UPDATE: As one of you (thanks, Mark) has clarified, what I mean by this is that Universal Search will search when within the applications themselves. Typing in “Buy milk” at the home screen will not show you your “Buy milk” task.
- Sprint employees are not allowed to purchase the Pre for the first 60 days.
- When you delete an account you are given a warning of deleting the account and removing all synced information or keeping the account… so if you delete one of your accounts, all those accounts’ contacts and information goes with it.
- Contacts app syncs with All Contacts instead of My Contacts, and there did not appear to be any options to change that.
- When connecting to FaceBook it did pull email, phone numbers, birthdates… etc. (And yes, also the pictures)
- It’s very likely (and by that I mean all but confirmed) that Mark/Space is working on a desktop sync solution for us.
- Much like the iPhone version of the app, Google Maps on the Pre runs vertically. At least right now it does. I have a feeling this is going to change soon… call it a … “hunch”
- Adobe Flash support is coming for the Pre but most likely it will not be available at launch
- Web browser is fully compatible with secure website encryption.
- When you start typing in a web page, unless you are in an input field in the page, it will type into the address/search bar
- No Memo lists support at present time.
- You can lock your screen on the Pre with either a simple PIN or a password
- There is a “First Use” utility on the Pre. It will help you set up your phone for the first time and create or link up to a Palm online profile
- No visual voicemail at this time on the Pre.
- App catalog available at launch.
- Apps available at our near launch… here: http://palmgoon.com/sling-player-app-amongst-others-to-be-available-at-launch/
- Are there groups or categories in the Contacts list ? No. This is a known limitation by Palm and it’s on the list to fix, but there’s no time frame for when it’ll be fixed yet.
- Will one be able to launch an application via hotkey? No. Use universal search or the Launcher.

Have we heard anything about WebOS’s music app?
Does it sync, ideally, with iTunes? (or the rest: Winamp, Songbird, Zund thing, WMP 11)
Smart playlists? (Genius playlists are probably too much to ask for.)
Coverflow? Album art find &download?
Metadata editing?
Podcasts? Specifically the iPhone on its own sucks at that–10MB limit & manual search instead of using iTunes podcast list. If the Pre can sync my list of podcasts and keep them up to date that’s a major win for me.
I ask because the Pre is much more of a standalone smartphone and music handling is deeply important to me. Without desktop sync (drag and drop really doesn’t count) than the music app on the Pre has a lot of heavy lifting to especially since the Pre is a full on assault on the iPhone and to do that music/podcasts/video absolutely need to measure up.
That said WebOS looks like a big winner. I might have to wait (stupid Canadian telecoms and their three year contracts) but I am looking forward to Pre2 & WebOS2 sometime in 2010

Can you email post it’s ? Or share them with others? Can you also share tasks or email them to others?

While I’m very excited about the Pre, I’m a bit disappointed that a few features that have been standard in the PalmOS forever are missing from the Pre at launch. I’m particularly disturbed that Universal Search won’t cover all apps even if not open, that there is no list view for Memos, and that categories are not (yet) supported for Contacts. For the last, I hope at least that a sync between Pre and, say, Exchange will not *delete* existing category information for contacts. {ProfJonathan}

OMG – no groups for contacts? No lists on memos? Seriously? How can they consider this to be useful in a business setting without grouping contacts or finding memos quickly!!! How could they not include what has become palm staple? If palm is relying on previous palm supporters to come on board with Pre, they should be at least giving us what we have come to rely on. I currently have over 300 memos, with a lot of important info, how will I sort through them? How can I quickly print out a group of contacts? I’ve been anxiously waiting 5 months for this phone, only to find out it can’t accomplish basic palm features. Grrrr!

Do you mean memo CATEGORIES?
What do you mean by lists?

Well my question got answered. Awesome. (However I’d still love for OTA podcast downloading via my iTunes list of subscribed podcasts.)

Can you indeed confirm that you can search within the Calendar app? I’ve heard that you can’t just open the app and start typing to search.
