Pre front and back

So by now you have probably heard that the Pre is going to be awesome. This post will help all you Palm Goons learn the hardware basics before the launch.

Design:

As you can see in pictures, the Pre is sexy like Giselle. It dresses in a glossy black plastic. Palm also did a great job with the shape of the phone. The pebble like design feels great in your hand. The Pre also hides a lovely slide-out QWERTY keyboard. With a quick push, the hidden keyboard will slide out from the bottom of the phone. With the keyboard exposed, Palm made sure the phone would be curved to match the shape of your face. The back of the phone remains sexy even while the keyboard is exposed. The new exposed area on the back of the phone reveals a mirror for a sleek modern look. All around, the Pre looks to be very competitive in the eye-candy market for mobile phones.

Keyboard:

One of the best features of the pre is its full QWERTY keyboard. The keyboard is almost exactly the same as other keyboards on recent palm phones. We wish the keys were a bit larger, but for the most part it gets the job done. Emailing, texting, or any other keyboard intensive tasks should be a breeze.

Screen:

The Pre shines with a 3.1 inch capacitive screen with full multi-touch capabilities and guestures. In comparison to the iPhone, the screen is a bit smaller with the same resolution. Everything is bright and is great for watching movies or reading email. Incredibly, the screen actually seems to be slightly more responsive than the iPhone. Multi-touch guestures like swiping and pinching are almost identical to the iPhone. Below screen is a black area that Palm is naming the “guesture area.” The “guesture area” is used for additional gestures which you can see in our upcoming post demonstrating the pre’s software.

Camera:

Generally, phones suck at taking pictures. Palm seems really eager to change this trend with the Pre. The camera on the back of the Pre is 3 megapizels with an LED flash. While the pictures are not as great as a stand-alone point and shoot, we are still very impressed. Photos taken with the Pre are rich and very usable for the average consumer. As of right now, there is no video recording (LAME).

Wireless Connectivity:

We are extremely happy that the pre supports Wifi. If your not at a hotspot, the Pre also connects to sprints 3G EVDO rev A. According to the giz, Sprint has the best and fastest 3G connection out in the U.S. Along with wifi and 3G, Palm also included Bluetooth support for wireless connections to other devices.

Charger:

The charger is one of the coolest innovations of the pre. Palm has stepped out in front of mainstream phone companies and finally made use of induction technology. Palm introduced “Touchstone charging dock” for the Pre. Place the phone down on the hockey puck looking device, and it will start charging without any wires connected. The phone can also be charged with a simple micro USB connector.

Conclusion:

Congratulations to Palm. Hardware-wise, the Pre seems to be equally as impressive if not more impressive than any phone currently on the market. Cant wait to see this sexy phone in action later this year.
